Take Action for Forests

The NSW Government is proposing to generate carbon credits by reducing logging in our public native forests.

It they get this right, this could either be a step toward recognising the carbon and biodiversity benefits of our forests, and ending native forest logging. But if the rules aren't fixed, this could become a dangerous subsidy for ongoing logging!

Your voice can help get this right.

Please use this form to let the NSW Government know how you feel about logging of our public native forests and why this carbon method must not allow continued logging of the homes of threatened species.

Use the points below to write your letter and email your submission to

You can include any, or all, of these points.

  • I welcome the recognition of the importance of native forests for carbon sequestration and storage, and the economic cost of carbon emissions due to logging activities.

  • To ensure integrity, carbon credits must only be considered where a forest is permanently protected as a national park, and logging elsewhere proportionally reduced. Allowing carbon credits to be issued for some vague form of modified logging undermines their integrity as it is unlikely to result in meaningful or measurable reductions..

  • The proposed crediting of delaying logging for a while (deferral) should be removed from the method.

  • That the NSW Government publish a policy of not selling credits to entities whose carbon emissions come from producing fossil fuels.

  • The Improved Native Forest Management (INFM) method must not support continued logging of native forests.

  • The baseline used for measuring carbon stocks should be publicly available and based on actual assessments of forest structure, rather than unreliable forestry timber estimates

  • Forestry Corporation should not be the proponent for any of these projects, as they have not demonstrated the ability to manage our native forests, report accurately or operate legally.

Also include any of the below points

  • I fully support an end to native forest logging and a future based on sustainable plantations.

  • Logging of native forests is leading to the extinction of species, such as the Greater Glider and Koala and so cannot be described as sustainable.

  • Logging public native forests is costing the taxpayer millions and leading to permanent damage to our forests.

  • We need healthy forests for holding carbon, cleaning our water, providing habitat, improving fire management, providing recreation, spiritual connection and logging native forests damages all these values.
