Protect Big Spotty's Forest

Protect Big Spotty's Forest

🌳 Take action

We are calling on the NSW Government to immediately declare North Brooman State Forest as the Big Spotty Flora Reserve, permanently protecting this forest and securing Big Spotty’s future.

Please take five minutes to write to your local MP and ask them to:

  • Declare all of North Brooman State Forest as the Big Spotty Flora Reserve
  • Deliver basic infrastructure to protect and provide safe public access to Big Spotty

Please also considering letting them know that you support ending native forest logging across NSW.
When MPs hear directly from local constituents, it matters.

✍️ Email Tips

The most powerful messages are short, personal, and clearly from a local voter.

 Here’s what to include:

  • Clearly state that you are a local constituent
  • Briefly introduce yourself -  who you are, what you do, and where you live
  • Explain, in your own words, why protecting Big Spotty and its surrounding forest matters to you
  • Mention any local connection you have to Big Spotty and the nearby forests  - family, recreation, business, long-term residence
  • Explain the importance of protecting the nearby forests to ensure Big Spotty’s survival
    • You may wish to include "Peer-reviewed research has found that large old trees are significantly more likely to collapse when surrounding forest is logged – I refer you to this study”.
  • Explicitly state that this issue will influence how you vote
  • Keep the tone respectful but firm

If you would like to go further, you can also state your support for ending native forest logging across NSW. For example:

"I also believe NSW should follow Victoria and Western Australia in ending native forest logging and permanently protect our remaining native forests"

If you would like to include a few key statistics, you can see a Briefing Paper on native forest logging here.
